Using
a basketry technique, strips of handwoven fabric (cotton, rayon, silk) are
wrapped around a cotton core. Coiled and machine stitched, commercial
hanger.

felted, of Corriedale/ Finn/ Rambouillet Cross wool, and Bombyx Silk, from
Spinners Hill. Inkle woven band, of variegated soy silk, rayon, and
Tencel. Ultrasuede® trim, rayon lining. Pattern from The Sewing
Workshop, purchased pin from Cheryl Louise Olney.

BAG" 2007
Quilted
Pineapple Block using fabric scraps of handpainted handwoven rayon and silk
with wool weft, and raw silk. MX Fiber Reactive dyes. Ultrasuede® trim,
silk lining, purchased closure, original bag design.
"LEAVES
AND BERRIES" 2007
150” x 30”
Hand-painted Unmercerized cotton
yardage woven in plain weave and twill bordered by 6-ply rayon, with stripes of
Hand-painted cotton tape woven as a supplemental warp on a plain weave ground of
6-ply rayon to simulate seeds and berries. Warps were painted with MX Fiber
Reactive Dyes, and woven on 8 shafts. Weft is 2/8 Wool.
“Meandering vines, bright leafy greens, heavy with berries, crushed and oozing, purples and magentas, concord grapes, raspberries, blackberries, splashes of color amidst the brambles of vines. The woven structures were chosen to give the illusion of climbing vines, heavy with leaves and berries, seeds imbedded in color, oozing with juicy ripeness.”
This yardage was exhibited at LUSH An International Juried Exhibition of Yardage 2007 in conjunction with the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Art Gallery at Bristol Community College, sponsored by the Textile Study Group of New Bedford, Fall River, MA
