Sandstone Tote

This pieced tote from 2009 is created from scraps of handwoven fabric from the Sandstone Jacket.  The handwoven handdyed scraps are woven in rayon and cotton and dyed with MX dyes.  The scraps are combined with a vintage raw silk fabric which has been hand stenciled with fabric paints.  The lining is cut from a silk sari, and the binding strips are cut from the scraps of a polyester sari.  There is a couched rayon novelty yarn on either side of each of the binding strips and around the top edge of the tote. The fabric scraps are fused to a stiffening agent called Flexi-Firm from HTCW.  There is one pocket in the lining.  The tote measures 13" H x 16 1/2"W x 4" at the base.  The pair of handles measure 30" x 1 1/2".
